UTILITIES & SERVICES
Generally, the Study Area lacks sufficient utilities and services to support urban development, with the exception, of the Gold Canyon Area near Apache Junction, and the Queen Valley Area.
ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION LINES
A major overhead electric transmission line runs through the Study Area parallel to U.S. Hwy 60, from Apache Junction southeast to Florence Junction. Other electric transmission lines run east/west through the Queen Valley Area.
ELECTRIC AND GAS
Electrical service for the developed portions of the Study Area is provided by Salt River Project (SRP). Natural gas service for the Gold Canyon Area is provided by Southwest Gas Corporation. The remainder of the developments within the Study Area use liquid propane if gas service is required.
WATER AND SEWER
Water service for the Gold Canyon Area is provided by Arizona Water Company and the Queen valley Water District supplies Queen Valley. The rest of the Study Area developments use wells to provide water. No public sewer treatment systems exist in the Study Area. Private septic systems and “package plants” are the major form of sewer treatment and disposal within Study Area. The Gold Canyon Sewer District (private} serves most of the Gold Canyon Area. A guaranteed hundred year water source is required for new development.
TELEPHONE & CABLE
Telephone (wired) service for the Study Area is provided by Qwest. Wireless telephone service is provided by Qwest and several other providers. Cable television service for the Gold Canyon Area is provided by Mediacom. High speed Internet access is available in most of Gold Canyon. Privately owned satellite dish service is required for television reception elsewhere in the Study Area.
POLICE AND FIRE PROTECTION
The major provider of police protection within the Study Area is Pinal County Sheriff’s Department which maintains a substation in Gold Canyon. The State Department of Public Safety provides patrol services along U.S. Highway 60, and backup response to Pinal County Sheriff’s Department.
The Apache Junction Fire District provides fire protection and paramedic services for the Gold Canyon Area. The Queen Valley Fire District furnishes fire protection for the Queen Valley Area only. The remainder of the Study Area is without fire protection.
